Retail excellence recognised at the sixth annual EuropaProperty CEE Retail Real Estate Awards Gala
EuropaProperty’s fifth annual CEE Retail Real Estate Awards, which highlighted the best commercial retail real estate companies, retailers, projects and people in the CEE region for 2012, continued to build on previous successes by welcoming over 400 top real estate professionals to this year’s event. The awards, held on February 21st at the five-star Intercontinental Hotel Warsaw, were selected by an international academy of jurors, comprised of senior industry professionals.
Rising above the general malaise in Europe’s retail sector, this year’s ceremony underlined the continued enthusiasm for retail real estate in Central and Eastern Europe, with a broad spectrum of winners collecting accolades for their continued market success.
Highlighting their extensive regional coverage, knowledge and experience, ECE Projektmanagement were this year’s biggest winners, collecting three awards.
Two of the awards received were for their Central development in Slovakia. The project was awarded Retail Project of the Year in the large category and took away the coveted Overall Retail Project of the Year award too. The company also walked away with the Property Management Firm of the Year award, highlighting the growing importance of good asset management.
Atrium Real Estate Management was honoured as the Overall Company of the Year for its accomplishments over the last year on the Polish retail property market.
“We are extremely happy about the award, all the more so as our accomplishments were assessed by industry representatives,” commented Katarzyna Cyz, CEO at Atrium Poland. “Our strong position as an owner, investor and now also developer is chiefly confirmed by our portfolio of 21 retail properties across Poland.”
Also recognized for their investment success in the region over the past year was CBRE Global Investors, which picked up the Investor of the Year award.
This year’s ceremony saw a lot of companies walk off with more than one award and past winners recognised again for their continued market success.
Ptak Holdings, for example, scooped two awards. Driving the success of the company is Albert Ptak, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, who was recognised as this year’s Overall Professional of the Year, as well as seeing his company receive an award for their Ptak Outlet Centre, the largest outlet centre in Poland, in the Factory Outlet Centre of the Year award category.
Project categories continued to reflect the changing dynamics of the region’s retail developments. This year’s projects were distinctively on smaller development scales, mirroring the more conservative pipeline plans from the region’s developers.
Other projects awarded on the night included Dekada Realty’s Dekada Olsztyn for Retail Project of the Year in the small category and Paige Investments/AEW Europe’s KLIF.DOM MODY, a highly praised refurbishment project, won Retail Project of the Year in the medium category.
Other major accolades were given to Echo Investment, which was recognised for their continued development in 2012 and walked off with the Retail Developer of the Year award for the second year in a row. Salans picked up the Law Firm of the Year award for the third year in succession.
Jones Lang LaSalle also won Agency of the Year for the third year in a row, four times overall, illustrating the leading role it plays in the retail sector across CEE, in market conditions which remain somewhat challenging.
Beatrice Mouton, Regional Director, Head of Retail CEE at Jones Lang LaSalle commented: “We are absolutely delighted with the CEE Retail Agency Award, which is a testament to our clients' appreciation for Jones Lang LaSalle's expertise, professionalism and strategic, broad advisory, as well as the company’s strong performance across the region. What is particularly important is that this title has been achieved in challenging economic circumstances and growing competition on the market. The award is a prestigious recognition from the industry not only for the leasing teams, but also for other Jones Lang LaSalle retail business divisions such as investment, valuations, property management and research.”
Additional company awards were presented to pbb Deutsche Pfandbriefbank, which was voted Bank of the Year for the second year in a row. Tax and Financial Adviser of the Year award went to TPA Horwath, with the company also taking the Professional Service Provider of the Year award for the first time.
